2007 mercury Milan. ABS failure, check brake system light on.

Main Post:

I'm at a loss, hoping to get some advice. ABS quit on me a few months ago, would sometimes come back on for a bit and then go back leaving some dicey stops. Mechanic diagnosed it as a bad driver side rear wheel sensor. Replaced that (he noticed the connections to the abs system were heavily corroded, cleaned them up), it worked fine for a few days, then quit on me entirely. The vehicle still stops fine for the most part, pads and rotors all around are pretty new, not losing any brake fluid, pressure seems fine.

Then a few weeks letter the check brake system light comes on. I don't know if these two warnings are correlated, or entirely separate systems. Got the Ford abs brake fluid recall done just for good measure, no change. Noticed the brake pedal switch had gone bad, replaced that, lights are fine now. I'm stumped, OBD2 doesn't spit out any codes related to brakes, just ABS and something to do with the PATS system. My mechanic seems lost too outside of replacing the whole ABS/ECU hoping that fixes all the problems.

If any of you have some thoughts I'd love to hear them. Brakes still working but I'm wondering if they'll go out every time I stop.

Usually I'm gonna say "they deserve it for being financially irresponsible" but seeing as how City and PSG remain at-large and unpunished, this punishment is a fucking joke
